Route: Luchon (625m) > Juzet de Luchon (640m) >
Artigue (1230m)
DESCRIPTION
Artigue is unknown to
most cyclists but well-known to the locals. It's neither a mountain
pass, nor a ski area finish of the Tour de France —it's
just a typical Pyrenean village with a picturesque low traffic road
leading to it. With less than 6 kilometers of real climbing, I couldn't
give it a four-mountain difficulty rating, but beware of its very steep
grade hovering between 8 and 11%. If you plan some rides around St-Lary
and want to finish killing your legs quickly, this is the perfect climb.
The eagle's-eye views from this narrow road carved into the mountainside
and from Artigue are well worth the pain you’ll endure. The very aerial
descent is particularly impressive.
