DESCRIPTION
Port de Boucharo is a grand climb leading you through Gavarnie, famous for its natural rock amphitheater surrounded by 1,000-meter cliffs from which Europe’s highest waterfall drops. You’ll catch a glimpse of this natural wonder after the first switchbacks out of town, shortly before you climb the steepest section, with grades over 10% some seven kilometers before the top. The road then opens up onto a pastoral valley as it winds its way through the ski area to Boucharo. Enjoy the southern view of the arid Spanish valley before heading down. The road surface is excellent and the switchbacks are perfect, offering an exhilarating descent. A photo stop in Gavarnie is a must.
