Route: Luchon (625m)
> Pont de Lapade (825m) > Pont de Ravi (871m) > Superbagnères
(1804m)
DESCRIPTION
If you have never heard
of Superbagnères and the road heading south out of Luchon appears flat
to you, you will be in for a surprise. Just look up from anywhere in
Luchon and trace the path of the chair lift that links the top of the
mountain to the center of town. This is the climb to the Superbagnères
ski area, featuring a 1200-meter elevation gain over 19.3 kilometers.
This beautiful climb starts in the shade of a deep ravine with a gentle
slope that quickly rises to 8%. The first half continues upward with
slopes constantly alternating between 2 and 10%. Halfway through the
ride, the road slowly breaks out of the forest. The final stretch
averaging 8% takes you up on a ridge that offers spectacular 360-degree
open views.
